Last week I awoke with an extremely tight back. I sat that morning for ten minutes and had trouble straightening up when I tried to stand. Perhaps it was due to performing the weekend before, perhaps not completing my core workout routine as consistently as I should. Whatever the reason, I knew I needed to do something before driving to work and definitely before ballet! This exercise is used in rehab and conditioning alike because it is an excellent tool to mobilize the spine while enhancing abdominal activation... ***if done correctly*** Swipe left to see the common mistake most people make. See below for how to best perform the #catcowpose 1) Start on your hands and knees with your elbows slightly bent and pulling your shoulder blades down your back (engaging your lower trap). 2) Pull your belly button in towards your spine (activating your deepest abdominal muscle). *Keep activating this muscle the entire time in until you end in child's pose. 3) Exhale while tilting your pelvis posteriorly, gently rounding your back, allowing each vertebra to react to the movement individually. Snake through your spine ending with the top of your head. *Be sure to keep pulling your shoulder blades down your back throughout the movement* 2) Inhale as you tilt your pelvis anteriorly allowing your back to arch slightly and each vertebra to lengthen along this curve. *Keep pulling your belly button into your spine, your shoulder blades down and concentrate on lengthening from the bottom of your tailbone through the top of your head. **Do not let your head break the line of your spine, your upper traps pull your shoulder's towards your ears, or your low back kink.*** After repeating to your heart's content, sink back into a child's pose. Shallow breaths this morning.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So much newness.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So many feels.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Anxiety, wonder, fear, curiosity, peace...⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Dualities makes this human experience confusing this morning.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Moments like this I have learned benefit from deep breaths, personal reiki treatments (I will be able to offer reiki to others in February!) followed by conscious movement.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am beyond grateful to have and utilize many tools. Today, it is breath, reiki and movement.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Also smiling. Because smiling and laughter always raises the good feels.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Oh! And writing. The newness of my life rustles up all kinds of thoughts, ideas, and overwhelm. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Writing alllll that shit down getting it out of my system. Personally, the more I place my busy thoughts on paper and do the act of writing - the clearer I am and more conscious I become to what is true for me.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ This post is me doing that actually. So thank you for witnessing my process.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When you‘re in a new transition in life, how do you respond? How do you feel? And, how do you ground?⁣ ⁣ Lastly - communication. Opening up about what is processing for me and having a safe space to express everything to my mentors and dearest humans. ⁣ ⁣ This is probably the most important tool of all. Outward perspective, guidance and accountability. ⁣ ⁣ This alone releases my anxiety and increases action. ⁣ ⁣ Yup. All of this is my protocol today. Again, when you have transitioned into something new in life, what feels come up and how do you process them?

If you’ve seen some of my older posts you may notice I spend a lot of time tweaking a patients movement patterns. So they can build better awareness and efficiency in their movements. With this patient I wanted to show him what his movement tendencies really look like opposed to how they feel. Ideally, in this position, I would like to see paired movement of the hip and torso. This patient initiates rotation through his ribcage and shoulder the hip moves secondarily. Drilling Animal Flow FKT’s (Front Kick-Throughs) down at @strength_system tonight - great to meet you guys! 🙏💪 . A bit much ‘turn out’ going on in the leading foot for my liking, but I love this movement - it feels awesome, it’s an excellent core stability exercise which also develops hip mobility and hamstring flexibility, and string a few together to really get that pulse rate pumping! . I worked up the line of difficulty from ‘Front Step’ to ‘Step Through’ to FKTs that jump or ‘pop’ back to Loaded Beast, and finishing on a few FKTs that jump straight into one another. . Watch my hand and foot placement on the slowed down clips. Feet always land just OUTSIDE your hand, and the hand is always placed just INSIDE your foot. PRATICAL INTERVENTION TO PREVENT AND REHAB HAMSTRING STRAINS - RESTORING PELVIC ALIGNMENT “Of all gait related injuries hamstring strains have the greatest rate of reccurance with as many as 1/3 of  injured athletes suffering re-inury with the first few weeks following return to sport.” - Tom Michaud The first step to preventing and rehabilitating hamstring injuries should be restoring the client’s pelvic alignment. In the order of operations you should always address breathing and pelvic alignment first as dysfunction at this level will limit your success down the road. The drill I usually start with is the 90/90 breathing exercise shown below. #wobblewednesday Did you know you have hundreds of thousands of balance receptors in your feet?! They start to “fall asleep” around age 30, and need to be “woken up” by testing them constantly! That’s why in an Essentrics class, we encourage a bit of wobbliness in our balance exercises — we want to keep these receptors awake and working, and helping us... whether it’s walking in ice, tripping over your own shoes (guilty!🙋🏻), or just gaining better proprioception for daily life, it all helps you continue feeling young and aging backwards.
I play and move through the unconscious, exploring with curiosity the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. She shows me where I am from moment to moment through deep breaths. I'm allowing what is without running away, embracing each layer of self part by part piece by piece. The sweat, tears, stories, stillness. Oh, how I love to be in the stillness. The silence is so deep I can hear and feel the sensation of my heart beating in my chest, connecting me to my emotional world.  How is she feeling today? What are her needs? Is she living congruent with her authenticity? Is she awake to life? The ecstasy that moves through my blood, my skin, my veins in moments as I fall into myself is priceless. Shifting softly into my power, heart, my intuition. She guides me to hidden places deep within my soul, opening the door to messages that guide me path. This is my yoga practice, my sadhana, my full expression of self. I want to share a pretty radical exercise with you.⁣ ⁣ Take any icky circumstance with another human that is weighing on you.⁣ ⁣ Perhaps the situation is you don’t feel respected, you don’t feel heard or perhaps the communication is all together frustrating.⁣ ⁣ I want you to write them a letter (don’t worry, you’re not actually going to send it).⁣ ⁣ In this letter, write down every way your needs aren’t being met by them.⁣ ⁣ For example:⁣ ⁣ “I don’t feel heard, you don’t take the time for me, acknowledge me, I don’t feel respected...”⁣ ⁣ Also write how this makes you feel such as resentment, frustration, anger, sad, lonely etc. ⁣ ⁣ Then write how you notice this affect other areas of your life such as physical/ emotional health, career, energy.⁣ ⁣ Be as brutally honest as possible.⁣ ⁣ Read this letter out loud.⁣ ⁣ Then scratch the name out of who it is directed to, and write yours.⁣ ⁣ This letter is actually to you. And how you are not meeting your needs.⁣ ⁣ If we do not fulfill our needs first, it can be difficult to communicate what feels lacking from a partner. We must be clear to ourselves first - show up for ourselves first.⁣ ⁣ Otherwise, we may be seeking to fill a void and placing pressure on a relationship to fill our cup when it is our responsibility first to meet our own needs.⁣ ⁣ See how you may be creating the very circumstance that is bringing upon frustration or anger. ⁣ ⁣ If you are not meeting your own needs, it is unlikely you’ll have them met in a relationship.⁣ ⁣ Do this exercise, and start to care for yourself with gentle loving compassion.⁣ ⁣ Show yourself respect. Acknowledge your achievements and give yourself love. ⁣ ⁣ Seriously though, do this. The single leg rotational MB throw is one of the hardest progressions of a side MB toss. However, it’s an incredible way to work on core and hip strength. Staying active is good for many of the bodies systems, reduces stress and helps maintain our overall wellness. Even when we are having our days of Rest, it's still an important act of self-care to take time to STRETCH the muscles and move the body. · Moving and Stretching, along with proper hydration both help to mantain healthy lymphatic flow which in turn helps to keep our body free of infections ~ I like to think of my body as a body of water (which in many ways it is) and when a body of water is left stagnant and still for too long it becomes boggy and stale. Healthy waters are ever flowing. · One of my favourite ways to MOVE my body is to intuitively dance to my favorite music. How do you like to move your body? INJURY PREVENTION 👨‍⚕ IS JUST GOOD TRAINING 🏋🏻‍♂ ➡ Working with these guys just once per week puts me in a situation where I have to make a lot of compromises. 🏀With them being in season, I don’t spend much time working on jumping, sprinting and COD.
