One of the worst ways to feed your mental health illness is by keep quiet. I understand that as a block person sometimes it can be hard to speak up to your parents, friends and family because let’s be honest - the back community doesn’t really speak or touch up on mental health. But remember there are services out there FOR you, click on the link in my bio if you need it. There are so many pages on social media where you can find comfort in someone e.g me, treat your mental health just as crucial (if not more) than you would with your physical health. If you break your leg , straight away you’d speak up and go to the hospital, if you had a penetrating headache you’d speak up and go get some painkillers. So why is it when it comes to mental health we stay silent? YOU HAVE A VOICE USE IT. MISOPHONIA 😫😤😵🙉 . Ever feel like you're going to scream and cry when you hear someone chewing gum? Or maybe you go from fine to sweaty and ragey when you're near someone excessively sniffing or clicking a pen? . You are not alone!!! . Misophonia is a condition in it's own right, as well as a major factor in ME and fibromyalgia. It's a feeling of irrational that occurs with certain sound triggers such as open mouth chewing or snorting. Here are some things that help me: 😌 Earphones or ear plugs - ideal for blocking out triggering sounds on public transport 😌 Deep breaths and focus. If you are stuck in a situation where you can't get away from the noise, remember that it WILL at some point, end. You will be ok, just focus on your breath 😌 Offer the person a tissue, or water. The majority of people don't even realise they're being annoying. Sniffing? Offer a tissue. It will either stop the sniffing or at least drop a hint that it's irritating you. 😌 Leave. If it's that bad that you're going to say something cruel, leave. Grab an urgent toilet break or say you're feeling unwell. Take a few breaths and centre yourself 😌 Stress ball or anxiety band. I have a hair tie on me at all times. If I'm stressed or anxious I wrap it round my phone and ping it in my pocket (I used to ping it on my hand but soon realised thsy that's pretty unhealthy), it really helps you to feel like you're in control of your surroundings. It's also quiet, so won't annoy anyone else 😌 Distraction. If it's safe to do so, play a game on your phone, text a friend or simply write down how it's making you feel, then delete it. This will help you vent! . This seems to be commonly shared in social media, the fact that depression is caused by differing levels of chemicals in the brain and has appeared out of nowhere. However this is not the full picture. Yes brain chemicals may play a part however they are not the sole reason for depression. A striking aspect of depression is how physical it feels which is perhaps why the brain chemical explanation has become a popular one. * * Research has confirmed that people who are depressed do have some combination of low serotonin and low norepinephrine however when non-depressed participants were given doses of these chemicals involved in depression they did not become depressed (Fonagy, 2003). Clearly it is not the presence or absence of these chemicals alone which create depression. What is likely however is that these chemicals in the brain are depleted as a result of an overactive stress response. * * Medication can benefit some but not all. Fewer than a third achieve a full remission of their symptoms (Kirsch, 2008). According to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines the gold standard treatment for depression (mild to moderate) is psychological therapy FIRST and for some there may be a combination of this and medication (for severe depression). * * Clearly depression is both biological and psychological. You are falling into a well and no one is coming to save you. The world is crashing around you but everyone is acting calm. You are pounding at the glass walls but people walking past are not looking. You are screaming at the top of your voice but no sound is coming out. You are standing still but the earth seems to be slipping from under your feet. You wish to feel but all you find within yourself is emptiness. . How did you get here? In the vast emptiness, thinking yet not thinking, feeling yet not feeling, screaming yet not screaming, moving yet not moving. . Did you get hurt? Were you left to fight the world all alone? Did you get pebbles in return of giving your best? Were you afraid they won't approve? Did they make you do what you never wanted to? Were you quietened when you wished to speak? Did you run a race you never wanted to run? Were you asked to pick diamonds when you wanted to pick stones? Did they hush you with their money? Did they ignore you when they said you were important to them? Did you think you were worthless? Did you feel your life had no purpose? . At times you can pin-point it, at times you cannot. At times you can feel it, at times you cannot. The vast emptiness remains... ready to engulf your remnants.
Let me introduce myself My name is Lindsay and I am a single mummy to my gorgeous little girl Imani (that her on her new scooter). Been on my own since the early stages of pregnancy. I am extremely lucky to have a great support network in my family and friends who have been amazing. I am eternally grateful for every single person in my life. I have a love/hate relationship with social media however I’m working on the love part more and more. I’m very aware it is not going anywhere and one day my daughter is going to want to be in this online world. So any tiny bit of realism I can bring to the table will hopefully help us all build a safer place for our children in the future. I lived with my parents until my daughter was 10mths old. We now live in a little 2 bed flat that is rented, there’s nothing exciting about it but it’s our home for now and it is exactly what we needed when I decided I needed some more independence. I’m hoping to move again this year to somewhere with a garden. I’m working on learning to love myself, rebuilding my relationship with food, understanding who I am and what I want out of life and thought I’d use this little corner of the internet to keep a diary of my journey. My life really isn’t very exciting, funny or entertaining so apologies in advance! The clue is in the name, I’m just an ordinary mum. It terrifies me to be open about my thoughts and feelings, the thought of friends and family watching terrifies me even more, however I know it’s something I really need to do to grow. How We’ve Silenced Our Inner Voice And How To Get It Back👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩🌿🐾 . We put ourselves in shoes that aren’t ours so much that we forget how to walk in our own. From our earliest days as children, we are (mostly unintentionally) taught to silence our intuition, our inner voice. . We learn that many things we want to do are “wrong”. The negative reactions we receive for doing them and the positive reactions that come when we do something others (at first, parents, teachers, caregivers) approve of show us that following our inner voice leads to bad things while following what others expect from us is safe and will be rewarded. . It’s no wonder that many of us grow up to be so plagued by anxious thoughts, that we can’t even be sure what our soul (using this word metaphorically) really wants. All that seems to be left sometimes is what is expected of us by those who love us, how we are judged by those who don’t, and what is needed to make us a “successful” person by one standard or another. We get anxious, stressed, depressed, and in the long run physically ill. . Learning to hear our inner voice once again is a journey of peeling back the layers of other people’s expectations that have been taught to us for so many years. . We get there by starting small. Starting to do more of the little things we enjoy - just because. Trusting that what we LIKE isn’t inherently “bad”. . We also get there through the appreciation of solitude. In some cases there isn’t a need for “more” solitude, but rather a need to learn to be alone and make the best of it, to be in the moment with yourself, to stop running to other people and constant activity for distraction. . Whether you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert (in reality it’s a spectrum and we are all both), connecting with ourselves one on one (like we would with a loved one) is crucial if we don’t want to live controlled by external “forces”. . It’s simple, but people run from solitude, sometimes for fear of how it seems, of missing out, or losing external opportunities, but mostly because we have internalised worldly judgments of self. . 27 _ The Bubble _ You should know. _ Unlike others, we weren't born off it. We weren't protected by it. We never inherited any privileges. _ We built this bubble on our own. It took years and years of fierce labour. Come near it and you'll hear the urgency, sense the panic and feel the gut wrenching hollowness it's made of. _ We don't need to hear why we ought to leave it. It's you who we need protection from. It's your judgements. It's the forced normalisation of our emotions. It's from you trying to school our compulsions. _ You can't school pain. You can't school loneliness. Stop it! _ My bubble is where I'll be, for when and if you need me.

There are so many days I’ve been so hard on myself. I’d tell myself, “you failed at something. But why don’t you see you have so much? Why can’t you just be happy? Why aren’t you grateful for the things that you do have?” But sometimes the pain is just too much. It swallows up everything. It makes everything around you dark, cues the spotlight and stands under it. The pain is too much that you get lost in the what ifs. What if I’d done this differently, this pain wouldn’t be here. And you’re hard on yourself everyday for something you couldn’t have even predicted. Months will pass by before you realise what you’re doing is harming you and not helping you, the failure delayed everything but this thought process is a never ending hole that you’re falling into that will delay it more. Healing is a very very slow process but making the choice to heal takes a long time too. Pain makes you desperate. Pain makes you impatient. Pain makes you wanna do anything to end the pain. Pain creates a version of you that you’d have never thought could have come to pass. But healing creates a new you too. Pain is tumbling down flights of stairs and healing is climbing up. Obviously the climbing up is going to be the harder part. And one wrong step sends you spiraling down again till you lift yourself up. In this whole scenario, if there’s one thing I’ve learnt it is to be gentle with yourself. How long are you going to be hard on yourself for till you realise that it’s not going to help you?!
