The #dodo #bird
this flightless bird was only found in #Mauritius
in the late 1800's when Dutch sailors stopped over on the #island
whilst travelling to Far East Asia for #trade
These amazing birds #evolved
from pigeons which flew and settled from other countries many years before. Over time, the pigeons settled, along with other animals like #tortoise
grew in size, became flightless due to not having to fear predators, became obese....they could not fly due to having too smaller a wings to sustain their wait and could not gain speed because of having short legs.
Therefore, they waddled around the south of the island eating and living in #peace
. Until humans came and ate them.
They were are cross between #pigeons
and chickens, double the size of a large #turkey
and were completely harmless.
