I grew up loving Duke Basketball. I remember so clearly being 10 years old sitting in a room where random things were stored at my grandparents home, (the play room it was called) and in that room was a small black and white tv. I stared at the screen with a broken heart because Duke was down 103-102 with 2.2 seconds remaining after Kentucky hit a shot to put them ahead. Then Grant Hill (my favorite player) was going to inbounds the ball and he threw it (as I held my breath and clinched my bag of Cheetos) all the way down to the far court free throw line and Christian Laettner caught the pass, made a move, and shot the ball before the clock expired. He made it!!! They won!!! I roared which probably my prepubescent self sounded like a squill. I was forever hooked!
I never made it to a Duke game until this year. I friend of mine @c.mast728
invited me to tag along and wow was I in awe. It was better than I could have ever imagined. Cameron Indoors is just so cool. There’s not an explanation that would do it justice so I will just say you’ll have to experience it yourself. You should go! The atmosphere is nothing I’ve experienced. It’s small, everyone is excited to be there, and the energy is through the roof! Literally you can feel the energy and excitement as you walk in and your heart starts to beat a little faster. I was so grateful.
Last night I got the opportunity to go back to see Duke play with a friend and this time my wife and son came with me! I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited. It was an experience I will never forget.
Holding him and watching @zionlw10 @rjbarrett
and the rest of the @dukembb
play a great game and beat @ncstate
was so... emotional to be honest.
Something I wanted to do my whole life, Canon, my son got to experience at 7 months old. When he was born and since I have thanked God for blessing me with him. But each day more and more I understand as much as I am blessed with him, he is a blessing to me. I can more understand God’s love for me and feel it so tangibly because now I know what it’s like to be a father as God in Heaven is my Father.
