Jack Chesbro (1874 – 1931) holds since the beginning of the twentieth century and the co-existence of the American and National Leagues as major leagues @mlb historical single-season records for wins by a pitcher (41), games started by a pitcher (51), and complete games pitched (48), 30 of them even in order at the beginning of the season. However, a wild pitch from him against the Boston Americans (that later became known as the Boston Red Sox @redsox ) prevented the potential win of the championship on October 10, 1904. The 1904 season was the absolute highlight of his career. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Though some pitchers have won more games in some seasons prior to 1901, historians demarcating 1901 as the beginning of 'modern-era' major league baseball refer to and credit Jack Chesbro and his 1904 win-total as the modern era major league record and its holder. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 📌Jack Chesbro, in a New York Highlanders (that later became known as the New York Yankees @yankees ) uniform, warms up before a game in 1904 in Highlander Park in New York City @newyorkcity , New York, U.S.🇺🇸 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #instagram #instagramde #instagramfr #découvrirensemble #jackchesbro #us #usa #american #pitcher #mlb #game #games #season #newyorkyankees #yankees #yankeestadium #PinstripePride #bostonredsox #redsox #highlights #career #modern #era #record #records #holder #uniform #newyorkcity #newyork #the_world_of_marius_mc

On August, 30, 1905: the American 🇺🇸 Major League Baseball (MLB) @mlb outfielder Ty Cobb (1886–1961) made his debut with the Detroit Tigers @tigers. In his very first at-bat, he doubled off of the pitcher Jack Chesbro (1874–1931) and Detroit beat the New York Highlanders @yankees , 5-3, at Detroit's Bennett Park at the age of 18, the youngest player in the league by almost a year. After spotting Chesbro two strikes, Cobb ripped a run-scoring double off the grizzled spitballer, the first of 4,191 hits he would accumulate during his 24-year career. On August 19, 1905, the president Charles D. Carr of the Class C South Atlantic League (known as the Sally League)'s Augusta Tourists sold Cobb to the American League (AL)'s Detroit Tigers for US$750 (equivalent to approximately $20,428 in today's funds). Although he hit only .240 in 41 games, he signed a lucrative $ 1,500 contract from the Tigers for 1906. ‪OTD in 1903, Cy Young goes all the way as Boston loses to the New York Highlanders 15-14. They had been shut out in their two previous matches in the series. Patsy Dougherty leads the Boston offense by hitting for the cycle, but Cy gets little defense as Boston makes eight errors behind him. New York starter Jack Chesbro is lifted in the 6th for Harry Howell, while Willie Keeler has four hits to lead the Highlander offense. #hbd Jack Chesbro was born June 5, 1874. His career record of 198-132 and 1,265 strikeouts aren't typical of Hall of Fame pitchers and many believe his induction was based solely on his 41 win 1904 season. Chesbro was, however, regarded as one of the premier pitchers of his time by historians and peers, even though his Hall of Fame credentials fall short seem to fall short.
