The cat’s out of the bag... and on the trails!
We got a kitten! She’s a gorgeous black and smoke tabby. Her original name was Dee Dee when we met her at the Humane Society shelter, she meowed and made contact with us so we decided to give her a chance. We all connected and we brought her home. Less than a week she was out hiking with us!
We later found out she was called Dee Dee, or Dumpster Diva for short because she was found by a dumpster in Shawnee, Oklahoma! Her foster family could not keep her and sent her along to the Boulder shelter here in Colorado where we rescued her. It was a match made in heaven because we travel often, go on plenty of trips and she’s used to being outside and on the road already! We took her hiking and she loved every minute of it! Near the end it got pretty windy and cold so we all snuggled up. She’s totally knocked out on the couch, all warm and cozy!
Hiking aside, she made herself right at home. We love her very much.
Her new name is Nizhóní. “Nizhóní means beautiful (in Navajo). On one hand it can refer to something that’s attractive, and on the other it refers to something that is good.
This is because the Navajo idea of beauty goes beyond appearances. Beauty is a sense of being, and is comprised of harmony and balance that is felt within. Things outside of our own minds can remind us of that beauty, and those things we call nizhóní.”
