It was 1 marathon (23 miles) a day, 366 days in a row!! She was on her sixties and him on his seventies. You can go, I’ll wait... and to make your jaw drop further down, Jannette has healed from cancer thanks to the natural lifestyle. Athletes know a vigorous workout can release a flood of endorphins hormones that boost mood. Now there’s evidence that exercise produces another hormone that may improve memory and protect against Alzheimer’s disease, according to a study co-led by Ottavio Arancio, MD, PhD.
In this study, Arancio and his colleagues first looked for a link between irisin and Alzheimer’s in people. Using tissue samples from brain banks, they found that irisin is present in the human hippocampus and that hippocampal levels of the hormone are reduced in individuals with Alzheimer’s.
To explore what irisin does in the brain, they turned to mice. These experiments show that irisin, in mice, protects the brain’s synapses and the animals’ memory: When irisin was disabled in the hippocampus of healthy mice, synapses and memory weakened. Similarly, boosting brain levels of irisin improved both measures of brain health. .

Southwestern Squash, Chicken, Bean & Corn Soup

2 Lbs Butternut Squash, peeled and cubed
1 Lb Chicken Thighs
4 Cloves Garlic
Salt & Pepper
1 Onion, diced
2 Stalks Organic Celery, diced
8 cups Vegetable Stock
2 tsp cumin
1 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
1 tsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Coriander
1 tsp Dried Oregano
1 tsp Smoked or regular Paprika
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
1 Can Organic Whole Corn, drained & rinsed
1 Can Organic Black Beans, drained & rinsed
Juice of one Lemon
Chopped Fresh Cilantro for garnish
Preheat oven to 425-degrees F. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper. Coat squash & garlic cloves with olive oil, spread out on cookie sheets along with chicken thighs, sprinkle with salt & pepper. Roast until squash is tender and chicken is cooked through (about 30-40 minutes). Set chicken aside. While squash and chicken are cooking. Coat bottom of heavy soup pot with olive oil. Saute onions & celery until soft and clear. Add 1/2 of your vegetable stock, squash, garlic cloves and remaining seasonings. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes. Using a potato masher, mash squash & garlic cloves. Add remaining stock, shredded chicken, lemon juice, beans & corn. Heat through. I’ve been doing group workouts twice a week with some of my fellow mama friends and one of the days we usually meet at 6am. Whew! I am NOT much of a morning person, so I need all the help I can get!😆

I have been woken up at 3AM by the resident on call to go over a neuro exam because of a patient’s mental status changes. Healthcare is not just a choice but a lifestyle.
Of course, what’s a vacation without a medical conference thrown in there? Headed to Puerto Rico soon for a week of Physiatry networking. Cannot wait to soak up the sunshine, science, and scenery ☀️👩⚕️🏝
