it’s only recently I’ve appreciated the skill of being completely still & the good it can do for your mental state. as much as I am passionate about moving your body & getting your heart pumping to look after your physical body, i am equally passionate about calming your thoughts & being peaceful to look after your mental body. mental & physical health rely on and impact each other so look after them both 💛

When I first started out on this fitness journey, working out for me was all about the treadmill, elliptical and the bike. Needless to say, this girl was AFRAID of weights. They just looked scary. Sound familiar?

Do you feel comfy in your own body, feel good naked, if yes, keep doing what you’re doing!
There is no one size fits all and if you are happy and confident in your body and skin, you do your thing! We shouldn’t always have to be trying to live up to the ‘ideal’, my ideal is completely different to someone else’s!
Our bodies are amazing things and carry us through so much, we should appreciate them as they are, no matter what stage of our journey we are at!
You know when you're trying to think of a good, motivational, educational caption but really you just feel like you're winning at life because you cooked your lunch without burning anything 🤷♀️
(That emoji of an avocado doesn't mean I tried to cook an avocado btw. I tried once. It tasted like a tramps doodah. Anyhoooooow)
It does however signify that by building routines and getting in the habit of making healthier choices, your damage limitation when things go tits up is much more effective.
You will be less likely to stop at the petrol station and fill your face with whatever jazzy shizzle they've got on 3 for 2 at the till. More likely to stay 90% on your usual diet whilst you sort your life out. Less likely to let your training and exercise regime go down the pan 🍳
Eating good quality foods and keeping the gun show pumped will stand you in good stead for excavating your way out of whatever pile of shite you have found yourself under! Feeling good is half the battle #youvegotthis

Throwback to last week because I am currently lying in bed feeling sorry for myself with a temperature, sore throat, headache and sickly feeling... 😴
So no fitness motivation today but I thought I'd share a fun fact about temperatures:
Do you know why we get a temperature when we are ill?
The bug/virus that has infected our body thrives optimally at our normal basal body temperature. Therefore the body raises it's temperature to create an environment which is too hot for the bug/virus to live in an attempt to kill it. This also sacrifices some of our own bodies cells and makes us feel poorly, but the body takes that sacrifice to try and kill the bug.
Just another little thing I think that shows how incredible and clever our bodies are!
Today I was not feeling my run. So instead of totaling forcing it, I upped the speed, knocked out a quick lil mile and moved on over to the stair master 👏🏼
My goal of this week was to get a run in on Tuesday and Thursday so that I’m prepared for my next 5k Saturday. But cardio is cardio, so I’m not even mad 🤷🏼♀️
20 mins on the stair master later 💀 OMG I may have now found my new favorite torture machine. Definitely considering editing my training schedule to make some room for this more regularly. Anyone else surprise themselves when they like something in the gym they always thought they would never even try? 🙋🏼♀️

I remember the feeling this time last year of realising I was actually going to study Physio in under a month after resitting and waiting for 2 years - so many emotions 😍😭 So proud of myself this year & the determination I had to push through and get what I wanted. Life’s not easy but if you want something, bloody go and get it. You won’t regret anything if you work hard ✨

Having an absolute shocker of a week, feeling totally down on myself and like all my workouts are a waste of time. I know it’s a combo of a really challenging few days plus guilt over holiday excesses and I can’t seem to shift the negative mindset. Sooooo I suppose what I should be focusing on is that I haven’t just curled into a ball and stopped training (although that’s fine too), I’ve kept showing up despite the challenges. And what my eyes see (a weak, puffy, podgy, out of shape blob) probably isn’t quite the true picture either. I’ve tried to take the opportunity to introduce some new routines into my workouts, shake things and focus on muscle groups a bit differently. I've had a fair few clients recently torn between cutting down and maintaining. ✂️ My advice is always to pick your moments. Timing is key. 🗝 -
If you have a wedding here, a birthday there, a long-weekend the following week... 🗓
It's pretty optimistic to assume you're going to navigate several 'events' scot-free. -
A busy social calendar is going to slow your progress down, no bones about it. 🤷♀️ Meals out are guesswork, and at the very least you're probably looking at a fair few days at maintenance, not in a deficit. -
But it's also bloody stressful. 🤦♀️ It's stressful to be at events that really are important and feel like party pooper who can't / won't join in because of your diet. 😳 -
If your calendar is looking a lil busy (yey so popular🤭), ask yourself:
1. Can i diet later, maybe in a few weeks, when I don't have so much 'on'? 2. If not, will I regret passing up dinners and parties, or can my diet genuinely not wait? -
Either answer is fine.
Just TRY not to end up in limbo. -
Going out eating & drinking a few times per week, trying to claw it back on your few 'free' days rarely works as well as simply carving out a few weeks of dedicated Diet Time. -
If you opt to try to do both... You get the worst of both worlds. 💀
You FEEL like you're dieting, because of all the low days you're taking to compensate those high days. 😓
But you don't get the result. Because the inaccuracies creep in and slow you down. 😑 -

Training yesterday morning was a bit of a struggle! My body and mind were SO tired! I’ve now injured my shoulder too (not sure if I’ve mentioned this in my story?! 😂) and I have no idea how so I’m not going to train for a while until it heals 😭 I’ll post my cleans from the session in a few days but today I’m posting my new focus - double unders. I want to start practicing a gymnastics movement everyday for a month and I’m starting with these. I’m so close and I got relatively ok at them a while back but then stopped practicing and now I suck again 😩 Thanks to @gerhardmaz
yesterday for wrapping me in a band to help my elbows stay in place - although as you can see I was confused AF! 😂 but I still got SO frustrated after not being able to do more than 3 or 4 in a row - almost crying at the end of this video - such a drama queen!👑 Gymnastics are not my strong point and I HATE it when I can’t do something because it’s not in my control.
Except it is.
And I’m going to spend a month working on these daily and prove that practice and hard work is the only way to achieve anything 👍🏼

Started adding courgette to my oats again to create the volume without the carb sacrifice, what a macro saving vegetable you are Mrs Courgette (I’m assuming they’re female, because they’re helpful.. and i’m yet to be proven otherwise that men are as great 😏🙃)

I’ve learnt so much so far on my ‘journey’ and as a result have achieved a more inclusive, healthy perspective towards food and fitness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am by no means saying I’m perfect; negative thoughts and doubts are often still there in the back of my mind... but spending less time being heavily influenced by what others are doing, or what they say we ‘should’ be doing, feels good 😆
Realigning your mindset with who YOU are, what YOU enjoy and ultimately what YOU WANT to do is so valuable in being content with yourself and your decisions 😌. At the end of the day, forcing yourself to run when you really hate it, or depriving yourself of a food because a magazine told you it was ‘bad’👎🏻, is not going to get you anywhere with regards to mental health and a LIFESTYLE that you can enjoy in the long term! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is what I’m striving for, and to be honest I definitely need to remind myself of my own words sometimes🤷🏼♀️, but that’s what I want to post more about ➡️ challenging negative, destructive thoughts in order to work towards a more relaxed mind and approach to life 👊🏻
