How to pick the proper weight? . Do you have this issue? •Which dumbbells to pick? •Which cable weight to start at? •How much to use for leg extension? •What about a barbell squat!? . Omg I feel you. But these are a few things I do. . . 1. Write your weight down. For every set. Every rep. Know how much you can do for how many reps and that will always give you a baseline. . . 2. Choose a weight that you think you can accomplish your set amount of reps. Then give it a test drive. If it’s too light, I like to go up weight and restart the count there. If I end up picking something too high, but want to achieve 12 reps but only hit 8, I will pick up a lighter weight to finish out the 12. ( this can be so different depending on goals, hypertrophy, etc) . . 3. Cables and machines are amazing for giving it a go. You can do one rep and think woahhhhh too much for 10 reps. Or wowwwe I could get 50 with this weight. Trial and error is easy with these options. . . 4. Barbell, I NEVER over load it, work your way up so you don’t crash and burn going too heavy too fast. You always want a light warm up regardless with a barbell. Get your form down and warm up the movement and the muscles. Then go up 10lb on each side when you are not easily fatigued. Once fatiguing, 5lbs on each side. Depending on your goals, to either hit 12-15 reps for endurance, 8-12 for strength, 4-6 for hypertrophy, or 1-2 for max : change the way you choose your weight. ALWAYS USE SPOTTER AND CATCH BARS FOR YOUR HEAVY, be smart love you. . . 5. Find your max and learn how to percentile them (this is pretty advanced if you’re new so stick to the above to make it easier at first) . The end, thanks for stopping by, hope this helps!

So no matter what your age, if you’re planning to take up a sport or a skill requiring practice and patience, go for it! These words may feel cliche as heck, but hear me out. If you’re scared to start loving your body and make changes because you’re afraid to fail, I’m here to tell you a few things. Listen up. 👏🏼👏🏼 • • 1️⃣ Set realistic goals. Have a specific person you follow who you want to look like because their body is GOALS? Change that mindset. Again, it must be cliche day, but the best body you can bring to the game is your own. Work towards creating a body YOU love because it’s YOURS. Unfollow every single account that makes you feel less than. Even if it’s mine. 2️⃣ You will make mistakes, fall off the wagon, get off track, whatever you want to call it- it will happen. A lot of people will act like their progress was linear when in reality they learned more about what NOT to do along the way. Hours of cardio and punishing yourself for a meal you enjoyed is not the answer. Trust your body and understand that one meal will not change months of progress-we’re aiming for consistency, not perfection. We want sustainable, and a life without pizza or ice cream just isn’t right. 🍏🍕 3️⃣ Celebrate the victories, big and small. Feel more confident in the gym? VICTORY. Jeans fitting more comfortably? VICTORY. For some it will be not eating the cake, and others it will be eating the cake and not feeling shame! Victory comes in many forms and each one deserves to be celebrated. 🎉 4️⃣ Progress comes from learning more about yourself. Where do you go when you feel like you failed- under eat or over? Punish or binge? If there is something that triggers you into feeling as if you failed, try to narrow it down and do what you can to combat it. 🧘🏼‍♀️ 5️⃣ Fall in love with the process. There is so much that can be said for this, but I’ll start here. Do what you enjoy and you won’t quit. No one who is mentally and physically healthy hates the work they put in. A marathoner loves to run, but that doesn’t mean you have to. I tell clients all the time, if you hate running, why are you doing it? Somewhere along the way, they were told running was the only way to get in shape, but by looking around at all of the different types of athletes we know that’s not true! So find YOUR process.

Someone asked me why are new people signing up now instead of the New Years? The answer is, there is 46 days left in 2018. A lot can change in 46 days, so the better question is why wait? . If you have been wanting to start exercising and getting a little healthier, you don't need a Monday or a new year; you can get started today! . To get started first write out some goals. I suggest finding a performance goal whether it's exercising once a week or more specific such as squatting X amount. I suggest including a small nutrition goal (nothing crazy or restrictive) such as drinking more water or eating vegetables at every meal. Finally, include a wellbeing goal whether its have bath once a week or read 5 minutes a day...whatever makes you feel good .
