At this time of year, the most common complaint I hear is about hair loss. There is usually always a reason for hair loss and hair thinning. Hair cells are the most sensitive cells in the body to internal imbalances and changes. The sudden loss of hair from all over the scalp is called ‘telogen effluvium’ and can be the result of improper nutrition, stress, hormonal upsets and pregnancy. A reduction in your hair’s diameter can also be influenced by these things, but is most often due to genetics, follicle sensitivity to hormones, and to age. However, the most common cause of hair loss in women are anaemia and ferritin deficiency. While many people associate finer hair with ageing, women as young as 18 can experience genetic thinning, triggered by conditions such as PCOS, and/or simply just genetics. I’m heating up applesauce in a cast iron skillet on the daily, and my IG story about it prompted some❓about WTF I was doing. So... here ya go! • • At my last visit to my MS specialist, I (again) expressed frustration re my fatigue. (Not the same as tired, but that’s a different post.) I was assured I wasn’t really fatigued, bc after all I’m a woman and lose a lot of blood when I menstruate. (🙄 I seriously deserve a 🏆 for keeping my cool). • • Anyway, they checked my ferritin levels and they’re on the low side. Not that surprising given my food intake quite frankly, sucks. I have been on the malnutrition train for a few years now. But here’s the problem- oral iron supplements cause wicked constipation and my GI tract has a large degree of paralysis. I ran into this when I was (the world’s laziest) vegetarian for 6 years so I can attest to constipation- and that was before my dead GI tract. • • Enter my Internist who suggested cooking with an iron fish and/or heating up applesauce in a cast iron skillet every day. The iron is activated by the heat and binds to the applesauce- another good option is tomato sauce. (Full disclosure your grandmother may be horrified bc you are NOT supposed to use cast iron skillets in this manner. 😳) Since I cannot physically cook very much (for both health AND ability reasons), 98% of the time I am just going the applesauce route. (Thankfully my hubs can lift the skillet for me bc daaaaaammmmmnn they are heavy.) But the iron fish will be dropped into pots of boiling water (ie spaghetti) or used when I heat up soup. We will recheck in 2 mo but hopefully this keeps me out of infusions. • • So if you struggle with iron levels I’d opt for the iron fish- ask Santa to put it in your stocking! (Just make sure the stocking isn’t hanging from the mantle or you’ll hear a CRASH in the night.) According to a fascinating book about iron I read last year and further research I have made, I realized that your total iron in the body is not that important at all. A highly unlooked by most people and way more important marker in most blood tests is Ferritin, which is a protein that stores iron in the blood. There seems to be a very direct correlation for longevity for people with lower levels of ferritin and higher correlation for disease for people with higher levels of ferritin. And most blood tests will say you are fine when in fact you are quite high on it. The easiest way to reduce Ferritin for men? Make sure you give away some blood. Women do it naturally and have low ferritin accordingly. My results? Lowered my Ferritin levels from over 200 to less than 100 just by donating blood more frequently for the last 1 year. If you have low iron, then T3 is converted to rT3, an inactive metabolite. Low iron decreases the influence of TSH on the thyroid gland. Low iron reduces the oxygen in the body which every cell needs for energy, including the thyroid cells. Low iron also means there will be low stomach acid further reducing the absorption of essential nutrients, including iron from the diet and increasing leaky gut symptoms. Heme-iron has a much greater bio-availability than non-heme (plant-based) iron. 1-2% of iron from spinach is absorbed compared to the 15-35% from a source of meat. A good general suggestion is to have red meat 2-3 times a week, a better suggestion is to get a iron panel to see how you are doing then make the necessary changes in your diet. Setelah itu kemudian setelah pemulihan, hidup saya bisa normal kembali dengan sedikit2 pegel harian. Menatap lurus ke depan tanpa ditunggu rasa sakit itu akan segera datang 3 bulan kemudian dan berakhir di rumah sakit. There are many good reasons to avoid over-utilization of medicamental iron. Except in very rare cases men should never take iron supplements. A woman will normally absorb three times as much iron as men do, but every time she menstruates, she loses a little iron. By the age of 50 she is likely to have less iron stored in her tissues than a man does at the same age. If you are anemic it does not automatically mean you have low iron levels. Often anemia in women is caused by a thyroid deficiency or other nutritional deficiencies (Vitamin D for example). Excess iron is a disaster for your health and leads to premature aging and many other issues, in particular because stored iron produces destructive free radicals. If there is an Iron-deficiency anemia it should of course be diagnosed, treated and if possible prevented. You better think twice before you start taking an iron supplement.

Друзья, после того, как я написала, что поста о высоком ферритине не будет, вы мне взорвали директ 💣. ⠀ Поэтому не скупитесь на лайк ❤❤, так я буду знать, что тема для вас важна. ⠀ Причины ↑ ферритина можно разделить на две группы: физиологические и патологические. Давайте о первой группе. ▶Особенности питания. Преобладание мяса в рационе приводит к ↑ ферритина в крови. Это в первую очередь касается мужчин. Вряд ли вы встретите женщину с ее физиологическими потерями железа, у которой ↑ ферритин будет связан с особенностями питания. Для женщин этот пункт не подходит. ▶Занятия тяжелыми видами спорта. То есть если ваш муж/сын/отец любитель мяса и при этом физически работает, то это очень даже может быть причиной ↑ ферритина. ▶Избыточное употребление (введение) препаратов железа. Если проверять уровень ферритина на фоне приема железа, то он будет высоким. Сюда же отнесу прием БАДов и витаминов, в состав которых входит железо. ⠀ Вышеперечисленные причины физиологические. Изменение диеты, отказ от тяжелой физнагрузки, отмена препарата железа вернет ферритин в норму. ⠀ Дальше поговорим о патологических причинах ↑ ферритина. Научным языком это состояние называется «Синдром перегрузки железом» (СПЖ). ▶Выделяют первичные (наследственные) гемохроматозы. При них у человека есть дефект гена (варианты мутаций генов в галерее фото), который приводит к неконтролируемому всасыванию и накоплению железа в жизненно важных органах. При тяжелой перегрузке железом уровень ферритина ↑ 1000 нг/мл. ▶Вторичные гемохроматозы бывают при гемолитических и мегалобластных анемиях, миелодиспластическом синдроме, многократных переливаниях крови, гемодиализе, хронических заболеваниях печени (вирусные, алкогольные гепатиты) ⠀ ❗Напоминаю, что ↑ ферритин при воспалении (инфекции) или опухоли, так как ферритин -  белок острофазового ответа. Также ферритин ↑ при массивном некрозе тканей. ⠀ В патологических причинах ↑ ферритина сами не разберетесь. Это сложно. Вы давно проверяли свой уровень железа? Я вот проверила недавно. Знаете, что нужно проверять не только гемоглобин и железо, но и ферритин? Ферритин даже, наверное, самый главный показатель ваших запасов железа. Врачи считают, что норма ферритина 10-130, но это нифига не так. У меня ферритин 20 сейчас, я чувствую себя зомбаком, у которого лезут волосы и отваливаются конечности. Ферритин должен ХОТЯ БЫ равняться вашему весу в цифрах. То есть мне надо хотя бы 63! А если я хочу успешно вылечить свой АИТ, то и вовсе 90!!! Врач же даже внимания не обратил, что у меня жопа с железом! Симптомы низкого ферритина: - бледная тусклая кожа - головокружение - сухость кожи - повышенная утомляемость - боль за грудиной - выпадение волос - частые простуды - вялость и сонливость - агрессия и раздражительность - депрессия и апатия - боли и судороги в ногах - нарушение стула Одной из причин низкого ферритина может быть синдром дырявой кишки, о котором я недавно писала. А также целиакия и эндокринные заболевания. Лечится низкий ферритин нормализацией питания, приёмом добавок железа и устранением причин препятствующих усвоению железа. Кстати, добавки с кальцием тоже следует исключить, тк кальций не даёт железу усваиваться. Кстати, железо содержится в красном мясе, печени, яйцах, гречке, грецких орехах и в миндале, рыбе, гранате и в малых дозах в яблоках!
