Can we talk about fat?
Two people whose health I care about mentioned reducing fat intake to me yesterday and they were not talking about lard, dripping, creamy Brie, sweet yellow butter or full fat clotted cream ( oh, yummy!!). No, they were talking about yogurt and avocados.
We need good fats.
For our brain, our organs, skin, hair, vision, wrinkles, you name it we need it for that.
Fats stop us getting fat ( there is more to that statement but for this post just trust me). Fats also help our absorption of vitamins A D E and K, they are SO important ( consider taking a good form of vitamin D supplement BTW). Enjoy good olive oil in your salad dressings or on your veggies, chunks of avocado with anything, if you are having yogurt have full fat and focus on it being live, organic and preferably sheeps or goats milk ( the Greek style is delicious). Full fat milk kefir is great for gut helpful bacteria.
Nuts and seeds are bursting with benefits - soak your nuts first for 12 hours to remove the enzyme inhibitors - and they help slow the release of sugars into your blood stream, are fiberfull and have plenty of good oils.
If you eat good fats and make your food delicious and dont treat healthy eating like a restriction, regime or diet then you will sustain it.
Let's face it if you are constantly hungry, bored with your food, eating things you do not like and feeling deprived you will never keep it up or, if you do your 3 days, 3 weeks or even 3 months you will revert to your original way of eating afterwards and go right back to where you were and really, really not want to start all over again when you undoubtedly will need to.
You will probably be a really grumpy misery too 😉
To lose weight and increase health we need to eat cleanly, deliciously and a huge variety of foods - mainly plant based and if not choose your animal based foods carefully.
Make every mouthful of food count, don't make your insides sticky and thick with sludge by eating bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice every day.
Nuts & coconuts make excellent, smooth and creamy ice creams sauces and dips.
