we’re heading back into a cold snap and my parents are going to puppysit for me over the weekend, which is super helpful because she gets antsy without longer walks/being able to do her “zoomies”, and going around the block just isn’t as helpful for her as running around like a cheetah in the backyard for three minutes before her paws freeze up. i’m going to take advantage of the reprieve to sew my #metamorphicdress
in between class teaching, since sewing with a big antsy pup is still something we’re working on (anyone have tips/tricks for getting your clingy pup to back off and stay while you’re working with the iron on or needles around?) ✂️
honestly, knitwear design is probably one of the least time-efficient careers someone could ever choose. i know a few designers who farm out all their sample knitting, but i personally rarely get help with samples because a) it’s an extra cost on something that already doesn’t pay me for my time b) i hate the paperwork side of design and probably wouldn’t bother designing if i couldn’t knit c) i love to knit and d) if i get bored with a sample or make adjustments to my original plans, i take that into consideration when i write the final pattern. also, my brain doesn’t work super well at constructing an entire pattern without any hands-on work with it - socks are probably the only semi-exception to that, and the occasional shawl where i feel confident in the vision and know the construction and math will easily work out. even with this design here, i came up with the border after i’d knit the rest of the body and wasn’t 100% convinced of my choice until i was about 2/3 through the border and saw how it was working out. all this to say, that i’m releasing a collection of 12 new patterns on my birthday in april, and i’m about 2 and a half weeks behind on my knitting, and it kinda sucks. i’m going to try redoing my #slowbusinessexperiment
and restrict social media to 30 minutes/day for a bit so i focus more and scroll mindlessly less. more intentional usage, less puppies in my explore feed for an hour 🤷🏻♀️ we’ll see how i do...
