Contrast training-Lift something heavy, move something light.
🔹With ski season around the corner, I’m starting to play around with some contrast training that might help build some of the qualities I need for skiing: Good Eccentric strength, quality single leg hip dominant movement strength, back extension strength and stiffness, and lots of strength endurance. I picked a few exercises that I like doing in general which also fit similar movement patterns and qualities I need for skiing: U-Bar SLDLs and bounding. In addition to picking exercises that will help to build the qualities you need for sport, don’t forget that adherence to training is crucial-if you pick exercises that work, which you also like and enjoy doing, it makes it a lot easier to get pumped up for training and sticking to any plan. You can have the greatest plan in the world, but if you can’t stick to it, you won’t get very far. Around this time of year in Chicago it’s very grey and gloomy outside and on top of a busy day of work, I struggle with getting in the mood to train sometimes. Picking exercises I enjoy doing helps me stay accountable to myself.
