Off-shifting away from surgical side: sometimes it’s strength or rate of force development, sometimes it’s fear, sometimes it’s unconscious habits. In this case it shows up twice: 1. only when distracted (jump rope) or reactive jump combinations 2. as a really angry posterior tib on unaffected side. When bilateral off shifting goes away, look at SL compensations, and when those visually go away check them again...they’ll usually show up again with force plate and motion capture integration. (You need to look at them paired TOGETHER in our opinion) Keep peeling the onion back. Players returning to sport WAY TOO EARLY with compensations still under the surface. A big reason nation-wide reinjury rates are 30-40% in athletes under 20 years of age over 2 years. We are at 10% and aren’t satisfied. In the 30-40 ACL rehabs we do this year....that’s 3-4 getting injured again. What drives us? Sport goes from being an incredible positive force in lives of athletes to the bane of their existence with ACL or repeated ACL injuries. 🏋️‍♂️Want to improve lower body strength and balance?⬇️⬇️⬇️ 🔷Unilateral exercises (single leg), particularly single leg squat variations are very effective supplementary lower body strength exercises as it involves increased balance demands and deceleration abilities. Therefore, single leg squats are great for strength development as well as for injury prevention, because it is important to control your lower limbs on landings and absorb the force to avoid the injury. 🔷The plate-loaded single leg squat off a box (demonstrated in the video) is an effective variation to develop strength as well as stability, and general athleticism. The plate in front of the body acts as a counterweight and helps with keeping the balance while the box allows to more through full range of motion. How to⬇️ 1️⃣Standing on the box/ bench, slowly unweight the non-supporting leg while maintaining balance; the supporting leg’s foot is in full contact with the surface. 2️⃣Lower your body at a controlled tempo to bring the non-supporting leg to the floor (or as close as possible) by flexing supporting leg’s knee, while slightly pushing hips back and slightly leaning forward with torso. So I'm not as active as I could be at posting my own or my clients progress but this is something I felt needed to be shared. My client was been training to get stronger and has been consistent every day, even on the days when I'm not with her to hold her accountable. I tell her not to mind the scale too much because of moments like these. She's been strictly lifting weights, and she makes a conscious effort to watch her nutrition. She went UP IN BODY WEIGHT but she now has been able to wear clothes that haven't fit her in a while. She is stronger, has MORE MUSCLE, LESS FAT, but happens to weight more. Had she only looked at the scale she would have been convinced that we were taking steps backwards. Yes, eventually the weight will go down, but it's never a straight line. This is the product of her consistency which is a rare trait in most people.
