Marvel Avengers Civil War lamps turned out great! Representing the Bronze and Silver Age of comics...

Hällristningar vid Häljesta. (Munktorp 128:1, 128:2)
I made a post for this before but it was a rainy day and the petroglyphs (hällristningar) were not super clear so I decided to go back on a sunny day! This is such an amazing place so it was worth it. The Häljesta hällristningar is the largest collection of petroglyphs in Västmanland with 99 ships, 47 human-figures, 4 animals, 1 snake-like-figure, 10 foot-prints, 5 rings, 1 weapon, 8 gutter-like-figures, 1 tool (plow), 1 patchwork, 34 unknown-figures and 261 cup marks (skålgropar). Hällristningar were made during the Bronze Age in Scandinavia usually by the shore on stones that lapped up on the stones. They held ritual and spiritual significance to the people who made them. It is hard to believe that the waters of Lake Mälaren (now 20 km away) would have lapped right up against the stones here at Häljesta.
This time I would like to focus on explaining in more detail some of the special petroglyphs here because at Häljesta there are some abnormal figures. I particularly like the archer and two men in a boat fishing. The quilt-like paterns, one with 16 squares and another with 8 squares are believed to symbolize farming fields but nobody knows for sure. There is also one figure that looks like a plow and another clearly showing a man plowing a field drawn by animals. My favorite is the line of 18 people walking in a line which experts believe is a funeral procession but could also be some kind of religious ceremony. Many of the Bronze Age petroglyphs have a religious meaning like the footprints. They are supposed to indicate the presence of a god because it would be blasphemy to depict them wholly. The ships which are ancestors of the later famous viking ships stylistically depict their crew with lines on the deck, the largest with a crew of 32.

Tjelvar’s Grave, a Late Bronze Age burial place dating back 3000 years. The deceased person, probably the tribe’s chief, was cremated and then placed in an urn that was buried inside the standing stones which are shaped to look like a boat. Archeologists have found hundreds of these pre-Viking boat graves on Gotland, the only place they’ve been found in Sweden. According to Gotland mythology, Tjelvar was the discoverer of Gotland but no one knows why this particular mound is called his grave, as there have been older graves discovered on the island. #gotland #tjelvarsgrav #bronzeage #archeology #fieldtrip
“And a great, angry beast shall guard the stones.”
Ok. I just made that up. This is actually a very nice cow who just happened to be wandering by The Hurlers Stone Circles. The Hurlers date to the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. The are unique in that they are three circles arranged in a line.
Legend says they are the petrified remains of men who dared to play hurling on a Sunday.
It’s is a very nice place for a walk. Head out past the stones to Cheesewring (a Tor or granite formation) and back. These are all located near the town of Minions on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall.

Not a key or anything, but drew this cover while in class as a kid. I thought it was so cool. A big freaky looking mutant holding scales with the Defenders and Professor X in one and Magneto in the other with the Hulk and the Blob duking it out. Love it!
