🎥 Iron Man 2- 2010. Director - Jon Favreau.
✔ Iron Man 2 follows it's predecessor in its slick style. Impressive cgi and visuals help contribute to the technologically advanced feel of Stark life.
✔ Vulnerability in Tony Stark. In this sequel, his diminishing health showcases a more human element to the usually arrogant, brazen, billionaire playboy.
✔ During the first Iron Man we see Stark's ego reach dizzy heights. He is brought down to earth in this outing, and his self admiration is replaced by mad scientist as he tries to solve his problems.
❌ Tony's trousers. I can't be the only one that noticed that whenever he is out of his suit, Stark is wearing flares? Not even subtle flares. Full on 70's job. Once I clocked, I couldn't help but check every pair of trousers.
❌ Alot of people slated Rourke for his performance in this one. I actually didn't think he was bad, and was an improvement on the villains in marvel films prior to this one. The last fight scene between Vanko and Stark did disappoint however. It was over before it started, and was less than memorable.
🤓 Robert Downey Jr. gained twenty pounds of muscle to reprise his role of Tony Stark.
🤓 Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard as Rhodey, due to a falling out between Howard and Marvel Studios. •
As sequels go, Iron Man 2 does a pretty decent job. It follows the same safe and successful formula as the first, and while it doesn't present anything too ground-breaking in its plot, it does offer some decent character development, that isn't always seen in super hero films. We see a subdued Stark, who is more man than ego in parts, and it's refreshing to see a softer side to Downey Juniors performance. There's also more important roles for Pepper Potts, Nick Fury, and Black Widow which set up future adventures nicely. The action and humour is predictably decent, and while there are many people who dislike it, I enjoyed the second chapter from Jon Favreau. His films are always enjoyable, albeit predictable, and I had a good time with this one. Maybe even more so than the first. 7/10
