It’s National Caregivers month and our Annual theme is “Hold On To Your Voice”
This theme was chosen because many caregivers learn not to complain. Caregivers start to care less about their own wants, desires, and dreams because there is so much to do. Caring for oneself becomes a burden.
Guilt. Anger. Resentment. Emotions so heavy are being carried around by Caregivers and it’s dangerous to our health.
We are raising awareness for Mental Health Caregivers this #NationalCaregiverMonth
because we get left in the corners when it comes to resources readily available for us. Mental Health still carries with it stigmas and therefore the lack of services and treatment options for a Loved One means we carry the weight of caring for them without help. We suffer right alongside them
Secondary trauma. Secondary PTSD. Anxiety and depression are filling the lives of Mental Health Caregivers everywhere (Google: “On Pins & Needles” a Mental Health caregiver study showing the negative affects on our of supporting a loved one with mental illness). _____
and the discussion is in Domestic Violence against Mental Health Caregivers. Not everyone realizes they are in an abusive relationship with a Loved One prone to “rages” like throwing things. Screaming and shouting. Slamming doors or hands onto desks or counters. Punching walls. Those are signs of active aggression that many caregivers face.
If you or someone you know are being abused here is a number to help:
Dialing 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) will connect you with an advocate to speak with confidentially at any time, 24/7, 365 days a year.
