A WRINKLE IN TIME (2018) Rated PG
Director: Ava DuVernay
Starring: Storm Reid, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe
Genre: Fantasy, sci-fi, adventure
5-Second Summary: Two siblings and a friend go on an adventure to find their father and stop evil.
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
So, this is DuVernay’s followup feature film to Selma. Can somebody say ‘Yikes’? So the evil mentioned in my quick summary is about the equivalent to the villain in the Green Lantern. Pretty bad. And I get the appeal. The colors are real fancy and the graphics are literally out of this world, but it’s just not good. By means of a tesseract, which is essentially capable of canceling out space and time, the three children are joined by Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which in their travels throughout the universe. Yes, that’s right, the universe. The big one. There are a series of challenges followed by some key character strengths and flaws, and then, well, I think I stopped watching to be honest. The first, I don’t know, twenty minutes seemed alright. It tried to be too big and couldn’t handle itself. You put faces like Oprah, Reese, and Mindy on the cover and all over the trailer, all dressed up in outlandish costumes and delivering even crazier dialogue, and it may seem like a riot. Well, I got news for you. It’s not.
Shining Star: I think the three children did the best acting, specifically Reid and Miller. I was just confused by everyone and everything else.
