ONIONS - Mmmm, onions. Nobody says that. Especially not to RAW onions. For a period of time after reading the book “Holes” every time I saw or thought of an onion it definitely reminded me of the events that happened in the book, it still does. The thought of eating one raw onion might already be repulsive to some, but imagine eating 20 raw wild onions every single day for almost one week.
That was what Stanley and Zero had to do in order to survive after escaping Camp Green Lake. They stumbled upon an onion field in the mountains after escaping which was later revealed belongs to Sam the Onion Man who used to live in Camp Green Lake over 100 years ago and uses them to make his wonderful healing powders, creams, and ointments. His story also is also closely related to the reason for the present-day narrative of Camp Green Lake.
It was those bulbs which brought healing upon Zero’s stomach from eating old and dirty food, prevents them from starving to death, and also becomes the only reason they were not bitten by the fatal yellow-spotted lizards when they were digging for treasure – because of onion coursing through their bloodstreams.
Maybe onions are not so bad after all?
Let's talk mental health. For the most part, I exercise to relieve stress and to reduce anxiety. It's the one time I can really shut off my brain and ignore the outside world.
I go to the gym most days but there are times, like today when I really need to zone out but have to put assignments before everything else.
I woke up exhausted, and didn't fully wake up until halfway through my shower. I was sad for no reason whatsoever and really struggled to get ready. But I threw on some music, took my vitamins, ate some porridge and made it out the door.
Despite feeling swamped I managed to complete another assignment and send off my ucas application.
Thank God for music.
It's okay not to be okay. Today is a weird day of ups and downs and that's okay too. It's not all fun and games and looking/feeling 100%. .
oh it’s absolutely one of those mornings 📚 having 3 essays/assignments due in the first couple of weeks after Christmas calls for some immediate preparatory reading 📖 ———————————————————————
I like to balance my work routine in chunks over the holidays, in which I split my time into 4 weeks. Week 1 and 3 will be my most intense study weeks, and week 2 (apart from some reading) I will have completely off as it is Christmas week and therefore a time for celebration and rest! Week 4 is hopefully an ‘ends-tying’ sort of week, if I have been strict enough with myself... if not, it’s a time for lovely stressful cramming 🌝 ———————————————————————#hellobrum#uniofbirmingham#christmasbreak#essays#assignments#study#reading#balance
Grading for the fall 2018 quarter is officially done. I’ve been grading assignments for weeks it seems like. This whole weekend (plus yesterday and today) I graded 75 x 2-3 page papers, 35 x 8-10 page assignments, and 4 x 35-45 page group assignments. I officially submitted grades about 30 minutes ago with about 2 hours to spare. Phew. #grading#work#assignments#learning#education#csusb#csusbkinesiology#csusbkines
