Empathy is defined as ‘the ability to understand and share the feelings of another’. I have always sought to understand others by volunteering in many areas in our community, to give back, learn and share the objectives, while delivering good governance, financial stability and planning on a Committee, or even just helping out in the canteen. Our volunteers do an outstanding job, contributing to the community - Thank you!
I have served on the Board of Community House Port Lincoln Inc, and through Linda, I was introduced to Ivan Phillips. Ivan has established a charity, Riding Free of DV, and has shared the very tragic, brutal murder of his step-daughter Tash at White Ribbon events I have organised or assisted with. I am so very grateful for his support in this video.
We all have a story. Our families have a story. Our clubs and community groups have a story. Sometimes the stories are tragic like Ivan’s, and other times, they are good news stories, or stories about the cost of living; mental health; fires; floods; business needs; service standards; jobs; childcare; safety, any number of topics or issues. By listening to those stories, I find out what motivates people; what concerns or fears you have; what causes you pain; what opportunities there are, and what brings you joy and pride.
My commitment to you, is to engage with the community on all levels - listening, understanding, caring, feeling, and then researching, finding a way and delivering productive outcomes.
I would like your No 1 Vote as Mayor, for experienced leadership, with empathy.
