Surgery went well yesterday! Surgeon said I “completely shredded my Achilles; not a clean tear, which was good I had it surgically repaired for him to suture the shreds back together” 🤢. And so it begins!DAY 1, PHASE 1 of my “WALK” to recovery. Cast comes off next Thursday, and I will transition into the beautiful, black boot! For many years, I wake-up and give thanks to Jesus for all four of my limbs, and the gift to be able to move. I have not taken that gift for granted, which has led me to my peace today. #countyourblessings #achillesrupture
3 weeks post op today. It’s now been 5 weeks since I’ve placed both of my feet on the ground and took a step. #imisswalking #imissrunning
My new short boot arrived yesterday....So much lighter, and much more comfortable! I figured I should get a better boot if I’m going to be using it for the next few months. #achillesrupture #achilles #postop
✨One Day At A Time✨
It may have taken 350 days...(who’s counting really😏)...but I can finally do a pistol on my right leg again!!! I’ve got a pretty cool coach in @whitzusp
that has made me work on it consistently even when I felt like I was nowhere near getting it. I’m thankful for the reminders that there are going to be good days and bad days, and either way you’ve just got to show up and put in the work. Much more leg strength to come 😤#achillesrupture #achillesrecovery
Strict pullups 5 days post op to the Granite Games 11 months post op. Since my Achilles Rupture I have lifetime PR's on strict handstand pushups, my 5k run, my Deadlift, and push press. I have matched my snatch and clean and jerk PRs with ease and only 5 to 10 lbs away from matching my 1 rep front/back/over head squats. I am stronger than ever and so thankful for all the help from April at CC's Physical Therapy for all the persistent therapy and most of all for encouraging me to continue to do the things that I enjoy! It's possible to get back to where you were as an athlete, and to even come out stronger!
Rachel: "Should I rest today?" April: "No, go to the gym!" (Music to an active girl's ears!) #crossfit #granitegames #achillesrupture #recovery #lifeisgood #thankful #physicaltherapy #dryneedling
Week 12: The return to nature. Working up the time boot free, brace and shoe walking, strengthening the leg and fighting swelling, new pain and fatigue. Every step still takes planning and thought, but very proud of getting out and being more like me. It’s easy to focus on how far there is to go yet. But instead appreciating the little details that going slow let’s me see and appreciate. Next milestone to conquer: Driving!! #achillesheal #achillesrupture #achillesrecovery #healwriteknow
Ups and downs. Might have walked a little too far yesterday. 13,000 steps plus a work out. My precious little feet didn’t take well. New pain under my heel. Feels bruised or something. Pretty bad on the walk home today. Any other Achilles peeps had this kind of pain? #achilles #achillesrupture #painintheheel #tinycalfcrew
Squad Goals in Dubai at the hottest pool party, one leg and all, why not!? 😜😜
I’ve healed up nicely. Still working on mobility, of course. Also getting rid of the kankle. It looks deceiving. It’s not really swollen, it’s just that my muscles are all turned off and not holding everything in its place. I’m holding steady at only 1.5cm swelling on most days. In PT I’ve recently been standing barefoot on a foam block to work on balance. It’s more difficult than I imagined it would be. My left leg has no idea what to do, but it’s better than it was last week. This is a terribly slow process and there is no way to make it faster. #achillesrupture #achillesrecovery
Got ballsy and didn't use a box. Just barely have the mobility back in my ankle to hit 90° without it being too sketch. Feelin hella posi. 12 weeks since Achilles reattachment.
. Rob took me to visit my ponies today. Riddle has been plagued with abscess. Hopefully he will be sound by the time I am cleared to ride again. Fed him a whole box of oatmeal cream pies. #achillesrupture #achillesrehab #day15
09.17.18 marks the day my life got flipped upside down. I suffered a complete rupture on my left Achilles during my personal training workout; I was running in place doing high knees with a resistance band around my waist. Complete freak accident as I workout at least 2 hours almost everyday. The incident has surprisingly caused me no physical pain, but a huge hinderance in my mobility; I need my feet to make a living. Surgery is scheduled for next Monday, and my road to recovery will be several months. Today marks DAY 4 post injury and I’m not gonna lie, the reality set in as I dropped a butter knife and couldn’t easily pick it up. I cried and had a moment of self-pity... but I know I AM STRONGER THAN THIS! I even preach this to my students! I got back on my horse (more like my knee 🛴 💨🤣) and went in for my training session with @jarell_betton.
Nothing is gonna stop me, not even a torn achilles. Life doesn’t stop for the pity, it doesn’t stop for anyone. Wipe the tears and keep moving. My faith in Jesus is the vehicle behind my drive. I will persevere and come out stronger. ✌🏽 💪🏽#achilles #achillesrupture #onlythedriven
💪🏻 #achilles #achillestendon #achillesrupture #walk #walking
Ay yo!!!? Get my Choppa ready, I'm going into the city!
That's something I'll say one day😎😂
when I had my cast on a week ago!! I told myself that I'll push through this process with this Achilles Tendon Rupture (ATR). It's definitely an injury that really checked me and has very much so, humbled me.my Doctor said it'll take about 9months to a year before I can do anything athletic with both feet of course. I told myself that I won't let this stop me from doing things that I love to do. In this case, it's exercising. It's a stress reliever for me and it gets me excited when I have little wins like pulling and pushing this heavy ass sled 😝.
Things could definitely be worst, so I'm counting my blessing😇.
post ops. It's been 2 months since I ruptured my Achilles. Went to see physio and did ultrasound on my surgical area to break up the scar tissue. Gave me a few leg exercise to strengthen my quads and hammie. Dorsiflexsion still no where near my non-injury leg😪 #achillestendon #achillesrupture #achillesrecovery #achillesheel
I am so THANKFUL that I ruptured my Achilles.
I know, it sounds crazy. It was the worst experience of my life. It was painful and took over a year to recover - and I’m still working on it.
I couldn’t drive, I was devastated, I cried SO MUCH! I would break out into a full on sweat 😓 just going up the stairs and my foot would swell and turn purple if I was up for more than about 10 minutes. It really was a STRUGGLE.
So why am I grateful? I have never been so appreciative of the little things. I feel blessed to be able to walk and the ability to jump is simply mind blowing.
Sometimes you need a different perspective to appreciate the little things.
