Yesterday was #MentalHealthAwarenessDay
- It matters very much. Do you think the social media boom and the rising number of suicidal deaths in history is a coincidence? I don’t. Depression, anxiety, bi polar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, anorexia, addiction, ect..These aren’t choices- they are illnesses caused by any number of possibilities such as genetic predisposition, chemical or hormonal imbalances, mental or physical traumatic experiences, drug abuse, ect...
You get the point. Depression, we should all know, is not the choice to be sad. It is a sickness which needs to be addressed and talked about. Everyone knows someone who is suffering, but most don’t recognize or know about it. As a society we need to stop with the bs and look at each other more than we look at our phones. Talk to each other about more than the weather and politics. People who are hurting the most may not be the easiest to love, or may be unrecognizable. Ask ‘how are you?’ and mean it. Be ready to listen. I’m ready to listen. We relate so much more to one another than we think. I’ve learned so much through my own struggles. I’m very lucky for the connections and friendships I’ve made with the ones who finally asked, and that I finally started giving real answers. Start the conversation, love one another, seek help. It’s 2018- talking about this issue, or seeking a licensed therapist should not be a stigma! We exercise our bodies but what about our minds?! Therapists are NOT just for the sick, just like gyms are not just for the obese. Please visit @twloha
and find out about the incredible work they do, and join the necessary conversations being had. I am happy I am here, I want you all to be here. Let’s stay together.
