The second rifle I ever owned.
An M44 Mosin Nagant Carbine. It was given to me by a friend, who got it from another friend, and so on. I’m not sure who, but someone down the line decided to cut the bayonet off and tried filing down the bayonet lug. Since it had already been altered I figured it was a good candidate to be “sporterized.” I pillar and glass bedded the action to a @boydsgunstocks
Monte Carlo stock. Cleaned up most all of the tooling marks to make the action smoother, recrowned the barrel, stoned and reshaped the sear, welded on an aftermarket 700 bolt handle from @brownellsinc
, media blasted the bolt carrier, removed the rear sight and filled in the pin hole, and finally gave everything but the bolt a black oxide bath from @caswellplating.
I did end up turning the bayonet lug down in a lathe, and you may notice I stoped there and left the front sight mount in place. At the time I was going copy a Finnish M28/76 and get a peep sight set up. Near the end of the build I decided to go sightless and install a Rocksolid scope mount with a @primaryarms
4-14 FFP Mil-dot rifle scope. I think I will repurpose the front sight mount for a suppressor mount similar to an Ops Inc mount.
I’m very pleased with this rifle, I shoot some blue box Russian 182 gr match ammo and my best 5 shot group was roughly 7/8”. #pewpew #secondamendment #makestuff #mosinnagant #762x54r #budgetbuild #gunbuilder #boltaction
