Lorella Springs........I got mixed feelings about this one. Ive had so many people hype this place up. When travelling on the road around australia I’ve now realised that you cant always take peoples word on a place. Ive been to places that people have said one thing and i felt the opposite. Ive learnt that travelling on the road when you have no income and on a budget is completely different to when I’ve been on a holiday happy to splash cash. You start to really question what you are getting for your dollar. The reason I’m saying all this is because it has put me in two minds about Lorella Springs. How easy it can be to fall into the tourist trap when on holidays and spend. Also how a great place can be missed because you are put off by the price when on a budget. I had a few things working against me, my mrs was recovering from heat stroke, she had to spend a few days working on her lap top, i had high expectations, the roads in and out to the property were shit house, due to our circumstances we weren’t able to see all the popular spots, it was later in the season so a lot of the main attractions were dried up (including the natural rock slide. (which i was super excited about😔). The home stead or “base camp” was nice with friendly staff, a hot spring to swim in, bar, chickens, peacocks, guinea fowl and an emu running around, fresh water croc with turtles in a display and a donkey shower system that requires you to start a fire to heat up the water for a hot shower. (which i loved)👌 We visited “the secret fishing spot” which is at the beach on the gulf, we spent two nights there and had a ball fishing, watching the wild life and the tides go out further then i had ever seen before.
What I’m trying to get at is, i had a good time there and can see why people like the place, but the question i keep circling back too is was it worth it?? Was it worth the $40 a night, corrugations, fuel , supplies used to see a beach?? Thats something I’m still umming and ahhing about. 🤔
Would i go back to Lorella Springs?... if i did it would be right at the beginning of the season so i could get a true feel of what the place is about.
We made it to Cook Town 🐊 Spent a few days in Cairns, but our car got broken into .... When we were asleep in the rooftop tent.. (wtf) The Gopro with all the videos from the trip got stolen... Nothing was backed up.. But it could have been worse! Luckily we had our wallets on us.. Besides that, living in our house on wheels has been great!
