In 1999, Corgi produced their James Bond ICON Collectibles series. 21 figures were produced up until 2001, where the set was discontinued due to poor sales.
Sir Hugo Drax, the villain in Moonraker was portrayed by French actor Michael Lonsdale.
Hugo Drax is a billionaire who owns Drax Industries, a private company which constructs space shuttles for NASA. Privately he is a megalomaniac who seeks to destroy the entire human race by using chemical weapons created by Drax's scientists. A selected handful would survive in a space station in orbit over Earth.
The producers tried to capitilise on the popularity of Star Wars, and used a very similar plot-line from the previous James Bond movie ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. After destrotying the human race the villian planned colonising underwater, Hugo Drax planned to colonize space instead. ‘At least I shall have the pleasure of putting you out of my misery.’ - Hugo Drax last words to James Bond, before the latter shoots him in the heart.
Moonraker is the third novel in the James Bond series by Ian Fleming and was published by Johathan Cape on 5 April 1955 featuring a cover designed by Kenneth Lewis, following Fleming's suggestions of using a stylised flame motif.
Only 9,900 copies were sold with the initial run, and a first edition is quite rare to find.
The novel played on a number of the fears that many held in the 1950’s, which included attack by rockets from the Russians (following the V2 strikes of the Second World War), and the worry of the re-emergence of Nazism0.
Fleming did a lot of research for this novel, and started writing this novel in January 1954 when Fleming and his wife Ann, travelled to their Goldeneye estate in Jamaica for their annual two-month holiday. Moonraker is the only Bond novel that takes place solely in Britain, and is an excellent read.
If only the producers of the Bond films were a bit more faithful to the original material, instead of trying to rip-off Star Wars....

In late 1995 Topps Comics began publishing what was intended to be a three-issue adaptation of GoldenEye. The film script was adapted by Don McGregor with art by Rick Magyar. The series was cancelled after only the first issue had beenpublished after a lengthy delay in getting approval for the racy illustration on the cover of issue #2
led to the series being cancelled prematurely with no explanation as to why.
Whilst the series is incomplete, it’s worth owning one of these comics as the cover work is pretty impressive.
If you want to read issues 2 & 3, there's a site which managed to get their hands on a black and white version which you can read online at www.comicsroyale.com this guy has collected a number of foreign non-licenced Bond comics and translated them and posted and worth visiting.
In 1995 Franklin Mint produced an amazing limited edition porcelain plate set to commemorate the first six James Bond Films. The series features the work of artist Dick Bobnick, and all are uniquely numbered. All of the plates are edge decorated in gold, and came with a certificate of authenticity. Thunderball was released in 1965, and starred Sean Connery, Adolfo Celi & Claudine Auger
