Real talk: I am not at all where I wanted to be at this point in my life. I have met very few of the typical "adulting" milestones. Some of that has to do with the path I've chosen to walk. But even among my fellow travelers on that path, my illness has set me back. 😰
_____
Ooohh... did you catch that language? What does the phrase "setback" evoke in you? Shame? Failure? Regret? Even when we try to tone it down by adding the word "minor" in front of it, it's loaded with peace-killing negativity. How can I rephrase that in a way that doesn't cast any kind of moral implication on my situation? 🀨
_____
Being sick is not a crime. Moving through life a bit slower and more carefully does not diminish your worth as a human. Getting less done in a day does not make you lazy or useless. 🚫
_____
I like the way @thechroniccommunity phrases it here: Chronic illness has *put me in a different place.* You can't get much more neutral than that! It's not a bad place. It's not a wrong place. It's not a backwards place. It's just a different place. And you can still pursue joy and peace and passion and make an impact from that place. In fact, what a uniquely beautiful perspective you bring to the table as a result of being in that place! ✨
_____
Words matter. Choose ones that are accurate and that don't set you up to feel defeated before you start. What beautiful, unique thing are you bringing to the table from your place? @life.of.raj Oof, I hear you. Pressure from others in addition to the pressure we already put on ourselves can feel overwhelming. Sometimes gently letting them know can help. A lot of times people don’t realize that their words are actually coming across as hurtful rather than motivational! Hang in there. You are exactly where you need to be right now. πŸ’• - 3 months ago

Thank you, I needed to read this. I am way behind my peers and it caused so much anxiety, but I am fighting it now. I just wish others would lay off me. - 3 months ago

@eggontheside Very true! Sometimes it is. It can be incredibly difficult to view it that way when you’re sick. But we all have the power to change our experience of our circumstances. πŸ’•πŸ™ŒπŸΎ - 3 months ago
