Arguably one of the most obscure wine terms used religiously throughout France. Whilst there is no direct translation, the most acceptable version is - the collective elements of soil, climate, geography and the human hand that results in the taste or identity of a specified area or vineyard. American wine critic Matt Kramer describes this as “Somewhere-ness” which is the simplest way to put it.
