Going to start having a book of the month now that it’s freezing. Currently 📖
This Friday! I have some presale tickets for $8 if anybody wants them in advance :)
An old Benedictine rule of hospitality goes like this: Let all guests who arrive be received like Christ, for He is going to say, “I came as a guest, and you received me.”
In this holiday season which is often full of comings and goings, givings and receiving, it all can become a bit... expected. Maybe we already know the story Mom will share, we might place bets on how long it before our uncle tells his favorite joke, or maybe we already guard ourselves against the default emotions that arise in us each year. But every guest might be Jesus. Every guest—even our family members whose personalities are as familiar to us as a well-loved sweater. But yes, here— in the rote and ritual of the normal—our warts and relationships can be transformed by Advent.
In the celebration of Jesus’s arrival into all our hearts, I pray we remain open to take notice and welcome the divine in every place and person. With this posture, perhaps we will receive something/someone new.
